About Rap International
History of Rap International
RAP was developed at BP chemicals, Baglan Bay in
response to the closure of the ethylene cracker in and consequent
loss of experienced personnel from the site. The aim was to capture
as much of the control of Work/Risk Assessment experience as
possible and make it accessible to all other users. The experience,
in the form of the controlling actions to keep the work safe, is
accessed through an ingenious method of job definition together with
a number of prompting questions. The resultant risk assessment is
then issued as a Permit to Work.
The Company
Rap International was established in 1994,
bringing together a unique blend of Safety Professional, Control of
Work and Plant Control/Programming expertise. Since 1997 we have
been implementing RAP around the UK gaining experience of a variety
of permit systems and adopting them into our culture. The result is
that we have an extremely flexible, one-permit system capable of
addressing control and risk assessment issues for any type of
maintenance activity.
At Rap International, we ensure that our programmers as well
as being programmers of the highest caliber, also develop high levels of
Control of Work knowledge. This can then be passed on in turn to our
clients, enabling them to gain a high-level support from people
conversant with their needs.
The same is true for the RAP Trainers. All of
these have at least 20 years experience in the safe Control of Work as
well as having run RAP for 6 years. This means that when we train, not
only do the users become familiar with the product but they are also
able to place this knowledge in the context of their day-to-day
activities. Something which we believe is pivotal to a successful
implementation – and we’ve done over 35 to-date so far.
The Clients
